The Governors
Of the fifty sitting State governors, 29 are Republicans, 20 are Democrats, and 1 is an Independent. Eight governorships are on the ballot in 2012.Three of those governorships are currently held by Republicans in Indiana, North Dakota, and Utah. These seats will stay in Republican hands.
Five of the governorships are held by Democrats. 2 of those seats will likely remain in Democratic hands, Missouri and West Virginia. 1 seat in North Carolina is likely to be won by the Republican.
Three of the seats, Montana, New Hampshire, and Washington, are too close to call at this time.
